Current Exhibition - Dirty Laundry by Deanne Gertner

SP_CE 13 is pleased to present Dirty Laundry by Deanne Gertner. A  deeply personal debut solo, the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the impact of language, power and gender.

The series features hand-stitched and beaded phrases—verbatim comments made by men—embroidered onto men’s underwear, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren briefs. “What began as a way to process and deflect harmful words became something much more complex,” said Deanne. “At first, these pieces felt like shields—ways to protect myself and redirect those comments back to their source. But over time, they became mirrors.”

The collection of textile artworks is at once comedic and devastating—oscillating between discomfort and recognition. It asks viewers to confront the individual phrases as well as the systems and assumptions that produce them.

Dirty Laundry offers a timely and provocative exploration—challenging viewers to reconsider the weight of everyday words.
